Oral Surgery Pre-Operative Instructions

  1. Fasting Guidelines:

    • If you are planning on being sedated for your surgery, do not consume any food or drink (including water) for at least 6 hours prior to your surgery appointment. Failure to follow this instruction may be life-threatening.

    • If you need to take medications, you can do so with a small sip of water.

  2. Clothing Recommendations:

    • Avoid wearing tight clothing on the day of your appointment. Opt for a short-sleeved shirt or blouse for comfort.

    • Wear comfortable clothes and shoes; avoid flip-flops or sandals.

  3. Hydration and Restroom Use:

    • Stay well hydrated with fluids the day prior to surgery.

    • Use the restroom 30 minutes before your appointment time.

  4. Health Considerations:

    • Do not ignore a head or chest cold when oral surgery is scheduled. Contact us immediately if any symptoms are present; a change of appointment may be necessary.

  5. Accompaniment:

    • Ensure that a responsible person accompanies you on the day of the appointment. This person must remain at the office during surgery and drive you home afterward.

    • Have someone at home to take care of you for the remainder of the day after surgery.

  6. Post-Surgery Guidelines:

    • Refrain from driving or making important decisions within 24 hours after surgery.

    • Avoid wearing fingernail polish or acrylic fingernails.

    • Do not wear contact lenses during the surgery.

These pre-operative instructions are crucial for ensuring your safety and comfort during and after the surgery. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us.
