Dr. Jonathan R. Shadi grew up in the West Los Angeles area, which makes Wilshire Oral Surgery and Implant Center more than a practice location for him. After earning his B.S. in Neuroscience from UCLA with College Honors, he attended the University of Southern California School of Dentistry, where he made the Dean’s List multiple times and received the John Ingle Research Award in 2009. That award recognized his contributions to dental research as a student, a distinction that reflects the analytical approach he brings to clinical work today.
Following dental school, Dr. Shadi completed an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Internship at the Veterans’ Affairs Hospital in Long Beach before entering the full OMFS residency program at the University of California San Francisco–Fresno, completing in 2014. The UCSF–Fresno program trains surgeons across the full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery, with significant exposure to trauma cases, reconstructive procedures, and complex anesthesia management. That training base is what qualifies Dr. Shadi to administer IV sedation and general anesthesia in-office, a capability that most general dental practices cannot offer.
Since completing his residency, Dr. Shadi has practiced in the Greater Los Angeles area, returning to the Westside community where he spent his formative years. His clinical focus centers on single and complex dental implant surgery, wisdom teeth extractions, bone grafting and ridge augmentation, and IV general anesthesia. Patients whose cases involve significant bone loss, impaction, or the need for sedation will find that Dr. Shadi’s training makes him well suited to handle them without outside referrals.
His background in neuroscience gives Dr. Shadi a particular attentiveness to the anxiety and comfort concerns that accompany oral surgery for many patients. Procedures that involve sedation or surgical complexity are also procedures that require clear communication and unhurried pre-operative conversation. That is what patients consistently describe in their experience with Dr. Shadi at Wilshire Oral Surgery and Implant Center. You can also learn more about his colleague, Dr. Saman Vahedi, whose board certification and academic medical center residency training complement Dr. Shadi’s approach at the practice.
