Our Team
Choosing an oral surgeon is one of the most important decisions you can make for your health, which is why the team at Wilshire Oral Surgery and Implant Center is committed to bringing you the highest level of training, experience, and personalized care. Our two board-certified and highly credentialed surgeons bring decades of combined surgical experience to every consultation and procedure, from routine wisdom tooth extractions to complex full mouth reconstruction.
Dr. Jonathan Shadi
The surgeons behind every procedure at Wilshire Oral Surgery and Implant Center bring a level of training that goes well beyond a dental degree. Dr. Jonathan R. Shadi and Dr. Saman Vahedi each completed multi-year hospital-based residencies, rotating through general surgery, anesthesiology, and emergency medicine before focusing full-time on oral and maxillofacial surgery. That background is what allows them to manage complex cases, administer IV anesthesia in-office, and adapt to the unexpected in ways that general dental providers are not trained for. You can read more about the practice as a whole on our About Us page — this page is about the surgeons themselves.
Dr. Jonathan R. Shadi grew up in the West Los Angeles area and has been part of this community his entire life. He earned his B.S. in Neuroscience from UCLA with College Honors before attending the University of Southern California School of Dentistry, where he graduated with Dean’s List recognition and received the John Ingle Research Award in 2009. He then completed an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Internship at the Veterans’ Affairs Hospital in Long Beach, followed by his full OMFS residency at the University of California San Francisco-Fresno, completing in 2014.
Since completing his training, Dr. Shadi has practiced in the Greater Los Angeles area, returning to the Westside community he grew up in. His clinical focus includes wisdom teeth extractions, IV general anesthesia, complex dental implant surgery, and bone grafting. Patients who see Dr. Shadi often note that his local roots translate into a familiarity with their circumstances — he understands why accessibility, efficiency, and clear communication matter to Westside patients who have full lives and limited time. His neuroscience background gives him a particular attentiveness to patient anxiety and comfort during procedures involving sedation.
Dr. Saman Vahedi
Dr. Saman Vahedi earned his B.S. in Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology at UCLA before attending the Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry of USC for his DDS. He then pursued advanced surgical training at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, one of the country’s leading academic medical programs for oral and maxillofacial surgery. Dr. Vahedi served as Chief Resident from 2013 to 2014 and went on to earn his Diplomate status from the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the highest credential available in the specialty. ABOMS board certification requires passing both a written qualifying examination and an oral certifying examination, along with verified residency training and ongoing continuing education.
Dr. Vahedi’s surgical scope is broad. He has extensive experience in facial trauma and fracture repair, orthognathic surgery, oral pathology and biopsies, wisdom teeth extractions, IV general anesthesia, complex dental implant surgery, and bone grafting and ridge augmentation. His training at UNMC emphasized high-acuity cases alongside residents from medicine and surgery, giving him a clinical depth that is uncommon in private practice settings.
What distinguishes Dr. Vahedi in a private practice context is the combination of board certification and that academic medical center background. Many oral surgeons in the Los Angeles area have strong dental training, but fewer have completed residencies embedded in level-one trauma environments where complex facial injuries, pathology cases, and jaw surgeries arrive without warning. That preparation shows in how Dr. Vahedi approaches cases that involve uncertainty, anatomy that requires careful planning, or patients who need sedation managed alongside other health considerations.
Together, Dr. Shadi and Dr. Vahedi bring a collaborative approach to oral surgery care at Wilshire Oral Surgery and Implant Center. Whether you are coming in for a consultation, a straightforward extraction, or a multi-step implant case, you will be in the hands of surgeons whose credentials and commitment to continuing education set the standard in the Los Angeles oral surgery community.
