Living with missing or failing teeth can make everyday activities like eating and speaking more difficult. If you’ve been dealing with uncomfortable dentures or dental problems that keep coming back, you may be wondering if there’s a more permanent solution. All-on-X dental implants offer a way to replace an entire upper or lower arch of teeth with a fixed restoration supported by implants in the jawbone.

At Wilshire Oral Surgery and Implant Center, our surgeons help patients throughout West Los Angeles explore their options for full-arch tooth replacement. Using detailed imaging and established dental implant techniques, we evaluate your oral health and develop a treatment plan based on your jawbone structure and the condition of your remaining teeth.

What Is All-on-X Full Arch Treatment?

All-on-X replaces an entire arch of teeth with a fixed bridge supported by a small number of implants, typically 4 to 6 per jaw. The “X” indicates that the exact number depends on your bone, your bite, and your goals. A 2020 clinical study of immediate full-arch implant restorations followed 23 patients with 170 implants in 32 edentulous jaws for at least 6 years and reported that all implants survived, though the authors noted a higher risk of failure associated with general disease.

Many people know the approach as Teeth in a Day because a temporary set of teeth may be attached soon after surgery. Unlike a traditional denture that rests on your gums, a fixed bridge attaches to your implants, so it stays in place when you talk and chew. Some patients need this treatment as part of a larger full-mouth reconstruction, and we can walk you through whether that applies to you.

How We Plan Your Treatment Before Surgery

Careful planning is where fixed-teeth treatment succeeds or struggles. We use cone beam 3D imaging to view your jawbone, sinuses, and nerve pathways in detail before we place a single implant.

Our office also uses modern planning software and AI capabilities to map implant positions and design your treatment around your anatomy. This level of detail helps us choose the right number of implants for you, prepare each step in advance, and share a clear picture of what to expect before you decide anything.

What to Expect From the Procedure

All-on-X treatment involves several stages, beginning with an evaluation of your oral health and ending with your final set of replacement teeth. The exact process depends on your needs, but you can generally expect:

1
Planning
Your surgeon examines your mouth and reviews detailed imaging to determine where the implants should be placed.
2
Anesthesia
Your team discusses anesthesia and sedation options to help keep you comfortable during surgery.
3
Implant Placement
Your surgeon places the implants into your jawbone, where they’ll provide support for your replacement teeth.
4
Temporary Teeth
Depending on your case, you may receive a temporary bridge shortly after surgery.
5
Final Restoration
Once your implants have integrated with the bone and your mouth has healed, your final bridge can be attached.

Before surgery, we’ll explain the procedure and answer any questions you have about treatment or recovery. If you’re concerned about discomfort or feeling anxious, we can also discuss IV sedation and general anesthesia and help you understand which options may be appropriate.

Is All-on-X Right for You?

All-on-X isn’t the right choice for everyone. If you still have healthy teeth, a less extensive procedure may be enough to address your concerns. For patients who have lost most or all of their teeth, or whose remaining teeth cannot be saved, All-on-X may provide a way to replace a full arch with fixed teeth.

Your jawbone also needs to provide enough support for the implants. Bone loss following tooth loss can complicate placement, and bone grafting may be recommended in some cases. An exam and detailed imaging help your surgeon determine what’s possible and explain your options before you make a decision.

Recovery and Long-Term Care

Recovery varies depending on your treatment, but you can expect some temporary changes to your diet and daily routine while your mouth heals. Your surgeon will explain what to expect and when you can gradually return to normal activities.

All-on-X restorations also need regular care. Plaque can collect around the implants, so daily cleaning and routine dental visits are important for keeping the surrounding gums healthy. We’ll explain how to clean around your restoration and which tools may help. You can also review our post-operative instructions or contact our team with questions during recovery.
