01 — Arrival
Check in at the front desk. If you registered online, you can arrive 5 to 10 minutes before your appointment. First-time in-office registrations should plan for 20 minutes early.
02 — Imaging
We will take a 3D cone-beam CT scan of your jaw and facial structures so your surgeon has a precise, complete picture of your anatomy before discussing any treatment.
03 — Consultation
Your surgeon reviews your images and dental history, explains your diagnosis, and presents all treatment options, including sedation choices, timing, and expected outcomes.
04 — Planning
Our team will discuss insurance coverage, payment options, and pre-operative instructions before you leave. You decide the pace and the next step.
Anesthesia Preparation
If you are receiving IV sedation or general anesthesia, you must not eat or drink anything after midnight the night before your procedure. A responsible adult must drive you home and stay with you for the remainder of the day.
Clothing and Comfort
Wear loose, comfortable clothing with sleeves that roll past the elbow and low-heeled shoes. Remove contact lenses and jewelry before arriving. Avoid nail polish on the day of your procedure.
Medications and Health
Notify our office of all current medications. If you feel unwell with a cold, sore throat, or stomach illness in the days before your appointment, please call us so we can advise on whether to reschedule.
Cone-Beam 3D CT Imaging (CBCT)
Our in-office CBCT scanner produces highly detailed three-dimensional images of your jaw, teeth, nerves, and bone in a single, low-radiation scan. This imaging allows your surgeon to map anatomy precisely before any incision is made. Learn more about our cone-beam 3D imaging.
Computer-Guided Surgery
For dental implant placement and complex reconstructive procedures, we use computer-guided surgical planning that translates 3D imaging data into precise surgical guides, improving placement accuracy and reducing chair time.
IV Sedation and Anesthesia Monitoring
We offer both IV sedation and general anesthesia in our office. You are continuously monitored by our clinical team throughout your procedure and during the post-operative recovery period.
A referral from your general dentist or specialist is common, but it is not always required. Many patients contact us directly after researching their symptoms or treatment needs. If your general dentist has referred you, please bring any X-rays or imaging they have provided, as this can help streamline your consultation.
Most initial consultations take between 45 minutes and one hour. This includes imaging, a review of your dental and medical history, the clinical exam, and a thorough conversation about your treatment options. We want to make sure you leave with a clear understanding of your next steps.
We are participating providers for most major dental and medical insurance plans. Our team will contact your carrier before your appointment to calculate your estimated coverage and out-of-pocket costs. For the most current list of accepted plans and questions about your specific coverage, visit our Insurance and Finance page or call our office.
Yes, and if you are receiving IV sedation or general anesthesia, a responsible adult must accompany you, as you will not be permitted to drive yourself home. For consultations, a support person is always welcome and can be helpful in remembering details discussed during your appointment.
Detailed pre-operative and post-operative instructions are available on our website and will also be provided to you directly at the time of scheduling. Visit our Oral Surgery Pre-Operative Instructions and Before Anesthesia pages for a thorough overview.
Oral and maxillofacial surgery is a well-established and highly regulated surgical discipline. Both Dr. Shadi and Dr. Vahedi completed formal surgical residency training and our team is certified in IV sedation administration and anesthesia monitoring. Patients are continuously monitored throughout every procedure. If anxiety about surgery is a concern, our IV sedation and general anesthesia options make it possible to be completely comfortable and unaware during your procedure.
