Delta Dental is a major dental carrier across Los Angeles, yet many patients with a plan are unsure how it applies to oral surgery. Before you schedule a wisdom teeth extraction, a dental implant, or a bone graft, two questions usually come first: does the office accept your insurance plan, and what might you owe?
At Wilshire Oral Surgery and Implant Center in West Los Angeles, we work with most major PPO dental plans, including Delta Dental, and bill your insurance as a courtesy on your behalf. Our insurance and financing process is built to answer both questions before treatment begins, so you can make decisions with the full picture.
Before your appointment, we can contact Delta Dental to check your plan details, covered procedures, and estimated share of the cost. We then provide a written estimate, so you have an idea of what insurance may pay and what may be left for you. Our office works with PPO plans rather than HMO plans, so knowing which type of Delta Dental coverage you have helps with scheduling.
With a PPO plan, your deductible, coinsurance, annual maximum, and network benefits can all affect what you pay. A Delta Dental plan summary from a California State University shows how these terms work. The annual maximum limits how much the plan pays during a benefit period, the deductible is an amount you may need to pay before certain benefits begin, and coinsurance is your share of covered treatment after that. Actual amounts depend on your plan.
Different oral surgery procedures can fall under different parts of your dental benefits. Coverage for wisdom teeth removal may depend on the reason for removal, while benefits for dental implants can vary considerably from one plan to another. Before treatment is scheduled, our team can check how your specific plan addresses the recommended procedure.
For procedures such as bone grafting or jaw surgery, we may submit information to your insurer for review before treatment when appropriate. Certain procedures related to a medical condition, facial trauma, or oral pathology may also be covered by medical insurance rather than dental benefits alone. If both types of coverage could apply, our team can review your dental and medical benefits together.
Dental plans usually set an annual maximum for what they pay during a benefit period. If you still have benefits available as that period nears its end, it may make sense to complete eligible treatment before your plan resets. If you have already met your deductible, you may owe less for additional covered care.
Timing differs from one plan to another, so check your benefit year rather than assuming it ends on December 31.
If insurance does not cover the full cost, you can review our payment options before your appointment. Your portion of the bill is due at the time of service.
At your first visit, our team reviews your insurance benefits, provides a detailed treatment estimate, and answers your questions about out-of-pocket costs. To help our team review your benefits efficiently, please bring the following items:
If you are unsure whether your plan works with our office, reach out before your first visit and a team member can verify your coverage. Your surgeon then walks through your treatment plan in plain language so you can choose a path that fits your needs and your budget.
Our board-certified surgeons provide individualized care built around your needs, not more treatment than necessary. Dr. Saman Vahedi is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. Dr. Jonathan Shadi grew up in West Los Angeles, earned his bachelor’s degree at UCLA, and completed his residency at the University of California San Francisco-Fresno.
We use cone-beam 3D imaging and treatment-planning software to plan procedures, and we offer same-day surgery availability and IV sedation for patients who want to stay relaxed. Spanish is spoken in our office, and both of our doctors speak Persian/Farsi.
